Wallets Roll Out EIP-7702 Features Half a Year After Pectra

Wallet providers including MetaMask, Rabby and Coinbase Wallet have begun exposing user-facing features that rely on EIP-7702, the account abstraction change bundled into the Pectra hard fork. The change lets externally owned accounts temporarily adopt smart contract logic for a single transaction or session.

Practical use cases already in production include transaction batching, sponsored gas via paymasters and permissioned session keys for gaming applications. Adoption metrics from Dune dashboards show a steady rise in 7702-flagged transactions since the upgrade shipped.

Wallet developers say the feature has narrowed the gap between externally owned accounts and dedicated smart wallets built on ERC-4337, without forcing users to migrate to new addresses.
