Binance Continues to Operate Under US Monitorship Terms

Binance continues to operate under the terms of its 2023 settlement with US authorities, which involved a total penalty of more than four billion dollars and the resignation of founder Changpeng Zhao as chief executive. Independent monitors installed as part of the agreement remain in place.

The exchange has significantly overhauled its compliance function, with new senior hires in anti-money-laundering, sanctions and risk. Global market share, measured by spot and derivatives volume, remains large but has drifted lower relative to smaller competitors.

Reports from the monitors are provided to US authorities rather than made public, and the full length of the monitorship extends over multiple years.
